Iterating on Light and Dark

About the Author

My name is Oscar.

This is not my first foray into blogging.  I have other blogs that have all been centered around a theme - often times my extracurriculars.  This, though, is really a replacement of “the personal site” - remember the one?  The ones we all had in 1997 (sometimes hosted on GeoCities), where you talked about who you were and what you did, etc.

A little along those lines:

I’m a writer.  I document for a living, more or less, as a Product Manager in the San Francisco Bay Area.  I’ve worked in the Internet space in some shape or form since ‘99, in a “long”, “varied”, and “industrious” career as such things as a tier one tech support representative at an ISP, as a web designer (when everyone else was too), client services for a SaaS ticketing vendor, and such Product Management roles as that same ticketing vendor, another (substantially larger) ticketing vendor, a music recommendation service, and now a Web Content Management SaaS vendor.

I’m a Bay Area native.  Born and raised, bounced around the bay (North, East, San Francisco) throughout childhood, my collegiate career, etc.

I’m one of nearly 7 billion people in this world who would describe themselves as “smart, funny”, and earnestly believe it with every ounce of my soul.  I’m also somewhat of a jerk, insufferably obstinate, and almost always right (in the kind of way that irritates everyone around me, and not because I’m actually right).  These are character traits I’m sure I’ll pretend to work on at some point.

Music is a passion of mine.  I’m not a bad singer.  I’m not a bad guitarist (or wasn’t).  I’m not a bad bassist.  I kill at karaoke (the kind of way that makes it no fun for people who are just doing it because they’re drunk).  I’ve played in several bands, fronted one for six years, and occasionally still write music.  Very occasionally.

Other passions revolve solely around 2 wheels.  I love scooters and motorcycles.  Scooters more than motorcycles, oddly.  I rode across the country on a Vespa GT200 in 10 days.  I have a small fleet of scooters (and a moped that will likely never run).  For whatever reason, the notion of scooters is offensive to many.  This might be why I like them.

I’m a father of a beautiful little girl, Casey.  She’s my light every morning, and often times when we put her down I end up falling asleep next to her.  I can’t help it.  She brings it out of me.  Casey’s mother, Lesli, is the woman I wake up next to every morning.  Each morning is a struggle to pull myself away, and each evening is a rush to be beside her again.  I’m pretty sure one of these days she’ll learn I’m always right.

I’m a workaholic.  I’m a gadget freak.  I miss playing video games.  A gym rat.  I’m never satisfied with anything I do.  That’s life.

There’s always room for improvements.
